Our Privacy Policy is about keeping your personal details private.

Protecting Privacy

Komtel are committed to providing their customers with the highest levels of customer service, this includes protecting their privacy. Set out below is information that Komtel are required to communicate to their customers. Komtel recommend that this Privacy Statement is kept for future reference.

About us

Komtel provide a range of telecommunication services to business and residential customers in Australia.

Personal information

Personal information held by Komtel about a customer may include the customer's name, date of birth, current and previous addresses, telephone or mobile phone number, email address, bank account or credit card details, occupation, driver's licence number and Komtel PIN, username or password. Komtel also hold details of their customer's Komtel services (including their status).

If a customer chooses not to provide certain personal information (e.g. date of birth), Komtel may not be able to provide the customer with the services required, the information in response to a request or the level of service on which Komtel pride themselves.

Occasionally, a customer may need to provide personal information about other individuals (e.g. authorised representatives). If so, Komtel rely on the customer to inform those individuals that they are providing their personal information and to advise them that Komtel can be contacted for further information. It is the customer's responsibility to inform an authorised representative about the existence and content of Komtel's privacy policy.

How Komtel collect personal information

Komtel collect personal information in a number of ways, including:

  • Directly from the customer, for example, when customers provide information by phone, in application forms or other agreements, or when customers or interested parties submit personal details through www.komtel.com.au;
  • From third parties, such as Komtel's related companies, credit reporting agencies or customer's representatives;
  • From publicly available sources of information;
  • From Komtel's own records of how customers use their Komtel services;
  • From visits to Komtel website.
  • When legally required to do so - for example, under the Telecommunications (Service Provider - Identity Checks for Pre-paid Public Mobile Telecommunications Services) Determination 2000.

How Komtel use personal information

Personal information may be used to:

  • Verify customers' identities;
  • Assist customers to subscribe to Komtel's services;
  • Provide services to the customer;
  • Administer and manage those services, including charging, billing and collecting debts;
  • Inform customers of ways the services provided could be improved;
  • Conduct appropriate checks for credit-worthiness and for fraud;
  • Research and develop our services;
  • Gain an understanding of customer's information and communication needs in order to provide a better service; and
  • Maintain and develop Komtel's business systems and infrastructure, including testing and upgrading of these systems.

Also, personal information is collected so that Komtel and their related bodies can promote and market services to their customers (including by way of direct mail, telemarketing, email, SMS and MMS messages). This is to keep customers and interested parties informed of products, services and special offers and may continue after customers cease acquiring services from us. When Komtel disclose personal information

In order to deliver the services required, Komtel may disclose personal information to organisations outside of Komtel. Personal information is disclosed to these organisations only in relation to Komtel providing services.

These organisations carry out:

  • customer enquiries;
  • mailing operations;
  • billing and debt-recovery functions;
  • information technology services;
  • marketing, telemarketing and door-knocking services;
  • market research; and
  • Web site usage analysis.

Komtel take reasonable steps to ensure that these organisations are bound by confidentiality and privacy obligations in relation to the protection of personal information.

In addition, Komtel may disclose personal information to:

  • A customer's authorised representatives or legal advisers (e.g. when requested to do so);
  • Credit-reporting and fraud-checking agencies;
  • Credit providers (for credit related purposes such as credit-worthiness, credit rating, credit provision and financing);
  • Komtel related companies;
  • Komtel professional advisers, including accountants, auditors and lawyers;
  • Other telecommunication and information service providers (for example, if a customer obtains services from other providers, Komtel may need to disclose personal information for billing purposes);
  • Government and regulatory authorities and other organisations, as required or authorised by law; and
  • Organisations who manage our business and corporate strategies, including those involved in a transfer/sale of all or part of our assets or business (including accounts and trade receivables) and those involved in managing our corporate risk and funding functions (e.g. securitisation).

Help ensure Komtel hold accurate information

Komtel take all reasonable precautions to ensure that the personal information Komtel collect, use and disclose is accurate, complete and up-to-date.

However, the accuracy of that information depends to a large extent on the information provided. That's why Komtel recommend that customers and interested parties:

  • Advise if there are any errors in their personal information; and
  • Keep Komtel up-to-date with changes to personal information such as name or address.

Accessing Personal information

Customers have a right to access their personal information, subject to some exceptions allowed by law. If customers would like to do so, please let Komtel know. The request may be required in writing for security reasons.

Komtel reserve the right to charge a fee for searching for and providing access to personal information.
